There is one case where I will use Balth Pts to get a specific level. Since it is only theoretically possible to level to Elder with something, and my monk wont be able to get the pet I want him to have to Elder, I will use points to get that one. I have almost every pet unlocked already and many to level 20.

There was at somepoint some kind of change that made it harder to charm with heroes, and so my plans to get elder white tigers on all my ranger's heroes were terminated. Each of my characters had a single theme pet. That changed, now they each have a theme area, like creepy crawlies on my 'Sin, cats on my Ranger, white pets on my Para, black pets on my monk, etc.

If leveling an elder pet was not so near impossible I wouldn't bother, but I will once it fits the budget.

All you should need is a L20 version of the pet in any evolution then just grab the L15 version that you want and train it the rest of the way. I've done that on my Black Moa to get a dire version.

I'm a little miffed that you can't put previously charmed pets in the menagerie.
Otherwise it's pretty decent. I like that your heroes' pets count as well.

I like it, it gives me something to do, and allows me to change pets out if I want to use a different one for some reason. I believe it's account wide? So I can cap pets on all my chars and when they finally hit 20 just put them in. It's kinda neat.

If you level the pets using the Menagerie, do they still grow in size?

It's damn nice, and just wandering around the island and seeing where each type lives is awesome. This is probably the best bit of the update actually.

A level 20 dire/hearty pet charmed at the Menagerie is the same size as it would be if you charmed it elsewhere and leveled it yourself.

All I can say is FINALLY! I've been wanting a pet storage location for the longest time. I'm capping all the animals and adding them, but I'm having my heroes do it - each hero will have a ranger secondary and charm a different animal and then I add it in there. hehehehe

I doubt I'll buy the pet unlock pack; training them will give me something to do. And I can always take one out and do missions or something with it to train it as well. I just want them in there more than training.

I have question...is this pet unlock only available to the Ranger class? I only ask this because no where on the Guild Wars Zaishen Menagerie page does it mention Rangers. in fact it leads you to believe it's available to all your characters.

Any character can make their secondary Ranger. Therefore any character can enter.

Ah thanks for clearing that up. Bummer I was hoping the charm skill would be made available for all classes.

I hope they allow all classes to have a pet in GW2, but of course the Rangers should be better at it by having Beast mastery attribute and its skills.

I dont really play the game anymore, but I had time to explore this feature.

it's purty nice.

Spent some time getting all the pets today. [ more like "runs" ]

So, I only had 3 pets to start with that I already had lvled up. (My Giant White Moa[war main], the auto max 20 Black Moa [discovered a few of my heroes had it and cashed it all in lol], and My Giant Blue Crab[Rit/main])

I used 3 heroes all the time to save time and it was nice to see the variety of pets we had at each hunt. 8)

Now, the only ones Im missing are:
-Rainbow Pho - pretty sure im not gonna grind for titles just for it. [probably not going to be doing any zcoin quests either]
-Moss Spider - I might get it through the traveler eventually (or not if I dont feel like collecting stuff for npc)

They look really nice all together in one place w/ minipet versions of themselves.
/bravo Anet, the setting/scenery is pretty awesome. maybe add some other features to it down the road? perhaps?

It was fun capping the pets with my heroes, it was funnier when I would accidentally kill them before charming. [hench or hero accident]

/me enjoyed it while it lasted.
/g'day.

**add: too bad you couldnt show it to a friend(s), but I guess if you could like the HoM, ppl would complete the capping of pets by sharing each other's menageries, so that would ruin the feature.

***add2: a good friend of mine ran me for the black widow. mission accomplished. moot moot!

Umm, Apollo just said any class can have a pet. You just copy and pasted what was said then ignored it. That defies logic.

To restate, Charm animal skill is available for all classes that have secondary ranger. Rangers get no additional benefit from the skill over another class.

What I've started to do:

Decide on a pet to get.
Find areas it lives in.
Scout out for locations with accessible res shrines that have such an animal nearby.
Re-enter alone.
Death level (low health low armour, with a high set for when it reaches 20).
???
Profit!

Yeah no, that's just one pet. Unless you can use it as credit for other types?

In some cases, no training is going to be needed. A level 20 Hearty or Dire unlocks all evolutions of that species. The only pets that will need training are going to be those that were charmed as level 20 elder (such as the Black Moa)

I already capped most of the pets for the Menagerie. I like it so far..Its nice to see all the animals in one place for once

Btw it seems lots of people are capping the phoenix at the end of factions. If you're gonna cap it w/ a pug, better bring some speed boosts

I just added the ones I had: rainbow phoenix; crane; white tiger; wolf; Meladru's stalker and black moa. I'd like to get that moss spider, but I'm not sure if I'm going to fill the place by capping the other pets... maybe. I guess it's something new to do It's nice just to walk around the place, it's quite pretty.
